April Dickson brings over two decades of experience in child wellness issues at the family, local, and state levels. Dedicated to the physical and mental wellbeing of children, April has volunteered with the Children’s Bereavement Center, the Clarity Child Guidance Center, and Sunshine Cottage through the Junior League of San Antonio’s SA Works. As a volunteer with David's Legacy Foundation, April was able to unite her care for protecting children with her legislative experiences and aid in passing David's Law the first comprehensive anti-cyberbullying law in the State of Texas.
April is guided by her passions for community service, restorative justice, the arts and education, and animal welfare. April's passion for restorative justice and education has led her to serve as a volunteer for and support organizations such as the Emmett Till Legacy Foundation, San Antonio African American Archive and Museum, Melaneyes Media, and the Sphinx Organization, and to receive NonViolence365 training from the King Center. In addition, April is an active and longtime member of the Texas Biomedical Forum and the World Affairs Council and has volunteered with numerous arts, environmental, youth, and animal welfare organizations over the past twenty years.
April has worked as a legislative aide and bill analyst at the Texas Capital, has served on the Board of Directors for several San Antonio arts and education non-profits, and has maintained an active presence in her community through volunteer work as she homeschooled her four children. She began volunteering with the Junior League of San Antonio (JLSA) in 2009, where she strives to see the League be a space where all women in San Antonio feel welcomed, included, valued, and heard.
April holds a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Urban Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. She is currently completing certificates in Women Leadership from Cornell University, Non-Profit Management from the San Antonio Area Foundation, and is a current cohort member of the HEB Foundation Narrative Change program.
