When asked why she wanted to get involved?

The reality of children's mental health is that 1 in 6 children (age 2-8) have a diagnosed mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder. A statistic that is even more concerning is that suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for youth ages 15-34. The problem is that there is a mental health professional shortage in Texas. Roughly 100,000 children in Bexar County struggle with mental illness, but 60% do not get the necessary help they need. With the JLSA Education Center at the Clarity Child Guidance Center campus, the hope is that the space can provide training for the next generation of caregivers and help those in the profession stay current on all the latest research to better care for their patients. Training and education is pivotal for successful outcomes for those children struggling with mental issues in our community.
