Dr. Lauren Malitz was born and raised in Huffman, Texas, about an hour northeast of Houston. After graduating from Texas A&M University in 2003 with a degree in Biomedical Science, she followed in her father's footsteps to the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston, where she graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 2007. She spent many years working in her father's dental office, both before and after becoming a dentist herself, and there is where she learned that a little compassion for people goes a long way!
Lauren and her husband, Ryan, moved to San Antonio in 2009, and she soon joined the Junior League of San Antonio. She has served on the Board of Directors of JLSA for 3 of those nine years. She has a special place for the Centennial Fundraising Campaign and Signature Project in her heart, as she has been actively working on this project for the past 2 years, and feels the collaboration of the JLSA and Clarity Child Guidance Center on children's mental wellness will be synergistic and greatly benefit the children of San Antonio.
Lauren delicately juggles her time between being a wife, mom to her 3 children Olivia, Elise, and Chase, a practicing dentist, and community volunteer. Besides the Junior League of San Antonio, Lauren has given her time to the PTO at her children's schools, St. Luke's Lutheran Healthcare Ministries, and Alamo City Opera. In her spare time, she is an avid competitive water skier, and enjoys spending time with her family out at the ski lake!
1) Why have you decided to serve as a Trailblazer for the JLSA?
As the plans for the Junior League of San Antonio's Centennial Celebration have come to fruition, I knew I wanted to be a part of the first group of fundraisers for many reasons. Of course the Junior League of San Antonio is important to me, and I wanted to excitedly spread the word about how the JLSA is going to make a difference in the lives of children in our community. As a mom of 3, when you hear that 1 in 5 kids has a mental health issue (which is nearly 100,000 children in San Antonio), and 60% of those children won't receive the treatment they desperately need to grow into thriving adults, after you pick your jaw up off the floor, you immediately want to know how you can help! So here I am...doing my small part so organizations like the JLSA and Clarity Child Guidance Center can help transform the lives of those children who need help!
2) Who and/or what inspires you to pave a path in our community?
My children, and the children of our community, are my inspiration to make the community we live in a better, safer place!
