Why have you decided to serve as a Trailblazer for the JLSA?

Four years ago I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. After surgery, completely changing my diet and lifestyle, I was better but still having issues every now and then. My flair ups always came after stressful situations that were unavoidable (no sleep for three weeks after a stomach bug worked it’s way through all five of us!). My doctor suggested I try a low dose anti-anxiety medicine to help get through these situations. My first thought was, “no I don’t need that”, but my body was clearly telling me otherwise. Since starting this medicine I haven’t had a flare up. Stress and mental health affects our bodies so much. I think every person deserves access to mental health, especially our children.
